Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right. Oprah

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Wow – this is it – it’s almost over and Oprah couldn’t have said it better.  Let’s learn from what we have done in the last year to make this year a better one.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?  This year is going to be my year to get organized.  I’m talking major storage containers and my label maker will be put to good use and I’m going to know where to find everything – well that’s my plan anyway.

As I’m doing this post I’m sitting at my sister’s house watching and smelling her baking that she is prepping for the crop in January.  We are also eating everything in site – M & M’s, muffins, candy, chocolate.  This is the last big Hurrah.  I’m also sipping water while I’m here (another goal for the year).  We are heading over to Mandarin for dinner tonight as well and I’m wearing my “buffet” pants (you know the ones that have alot of stretch) so I can eat well tonight.

Tomorrow is reality check and the official end of my mini break – Younique is back up and running full steam ahead.  We are booked up for 2012 with very little spots available and in the next month we will be opening up 2013 so we can start booking up – hard to believe we are booking that far in advance.

We are 21 days away from the big crop and I’m no where near ready YIKES – so much to do in the next 3 weeks and we have 150 people so far – kits to do, goodie bags, table toppers, arrangements and so much more.  I’ll post some photos as I complete each product.

Jeff and I will be meeting on Tuesday to start the new year and meal planning for our January 6th weekend.  I’ll share a photo of his wonderful Beef and Beer stew and the recipe is on the web site.

Can you smell it?

Here’s another photo of one of our dinner’s in December

So good and yummy and love Jeff’s presentation.  We think you deserve it

If at first you don’t succeed…

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

I have been entering a variety of contests for scrapbookers and I was just informed that the the one that I really really wanted to be a part of I did not make.  Next year I will be better prepared for the competition.  Try, try again, correct?

As I always say “onward and upward” that is my motto and something we have always tried to incorporate into our business plan.  2012 will bring us into our 5th year of operating the retreat and we have “tweaked” many things over the years and we will continue to do our “tweaking” in 2012 to make Younique your ultimate scrapbooking retreat.

We have recently added a new product to the store and I’m loving playing around with it.  It is the Ribbon maker from W R Memory Makers

The Sew ribbon is a great tool that allows you to add patterned borders with ribbon.  You can also add this pattern into the center of your page if you prefer

There are 3 pieces to the punch.  A top, bottom and the cutter section.  The actual cutter sits in the hole on the side of the punch when not in use and holds all 3 pieces together.  Great for storage.  You also have ribbon threaders (needles) with the punch

Opening up the 2 main pieces of the punch you can see little magnets on each piece.  You sandwich your paper in between the 2 parts of the punch and the magnets will hold your paper aligned and together

Here you can see how the edges are aligned.  I have used the leaf punch for this demo

Then using the cutting portion you insert the cutter into each section on the stencil and punch through your paper

After all the areas are punched you remove the stencil and are now ready to thread your ribbon through the punch.  This is a threader/needle that you use to hold your ribbon as you guide it through the holes.  It is a sticky piece of acrylic.  You remove the backing off the threader and attach it to your ribbon

Once your ribbon is attached to the threader it is so easy to pull it through the punched holes

And there you have it.  This is the leaf pattern.  I love all the patterns available and I’m sure we will see lots more coming out in 2012

Here is a layout I created and used one of the punches to create a section through the center portion of the layout.  I acutally punched out a separate piece of paper and attached it to the base of my layout.

We have the punches in stock and can be ordered online or you can visit the store and pick up one for yourself.

We are fired up now

Hi Everyone:

Just an fyi – we have had an update to our recipe program on our website and Jeff has been very busy putting all your requested recipes on the site.   I will add that he also is not happy with our recipe program but for now it is the one we have to use.  We are approaching 100 recipes on the site and you will have to search by key word to get what you want.

The thing we have to remember is that our website is really not strictly a recipe site like the others out there but rather a site about the retreat and that we have a page for recipes.  I hope you can browse through them and try them out – they are all listed there because of requests by our guests.

Jeff worked on a new menu last week and introduced the guests to  Skillet Bourbon Chicken with cornbread topping.

First off -prepping the chicken and arranging in our huge cast iron skillet

One of the finer parts of the recipe – planning on how to ignite the bourbon

I think our Chef is too happy about lighting a fire in the kitchen.  Should we be concerned about that LOL

Ta Da – flaming top on the dish before the finishing touches in the oven

As Rachel Ray would say – if this was Smell a vision you would think the smell was divine.

Enjoy your day

House Mouse and Fall – what a great Monday

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Hi Everyone:

I had our card class last week and I do beleive everyone was pleased with the results.  Our card classes with the House Mouse stamps are so popular.  Do we ever tire of those little creatures, I don’t think so.

Anyway here are the cards I designed for the class.  I hope you can make it out for the November 20th card class featuring….you guessed it House Mouse and Copics.  Sign up through the online store for the class

For the first card I incorporated a large background stamp that we applied using our Copic color on the stamp itself, spraying with blender solution and stamping.  We then stamped on the mouse and also cut out leaves, pop dotted them and added some glossy accents.

Another cutie for Halloween.  We created a step up card and used DCWV paper strips on the actual card.

This was probably my favorite of the 4 we created.  I used some fabric on the left side of the card with spider and webs.  Behind the fabric we added DCWV paper with spiders on it as well.  Touch of Stickles never hurt anyone did it - love my stickles

The last card seemed to be everyone’s favorite out of the 4.  I cut the card using Wrap It Up cartridge by Cricut and then we added some Apple scented embossing powder to the stem of the apple to create a Smelly Card.  It was very cute.

Hope you like them and why not share some of your House Mouse creations with me?

Ka Ka Krazy for Kaisercraft

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

I have always loved Kaisercraft paper and their embellishments but I have to say that they have outdone themselves at the CHA show this year.  Their use of paper products with their wood products was very eye catching and some gorgeous items for home decor.  I was not going to place an order at the show but I couldn’t resist with the lines they were offering.

I love this birdcage – as a home decor piece.  It is about 18″ tall and can be decorated in so many ways.

Dress forms are the rage this year and this one is no exception.  This also stands about 18″ tall.  I can’t wait to incorporate this into my table settings.

These wall photo displays were done up using the Hunt and Gather line – we have received the complete line and I will have completed samples in the store.  Tucked in front are the new sparklets – they make me smile.

I’m loving the little wood trees – great for cards and layouts

We have also received the smaller 2 pack of dress forms.  These are about 11.5 inches tall so they can be added to the cover of an album or a layout.  The 9 pocket shelving unit is great for all kinds of projects – for your hubby, yourself or anyone else for christmas.  This can be decorated with some nice paper and apply a coat of Podge It over the top of the paper and it will last forever.

New paper too

Hunt and Gather paper.  I would not have brought in this line if I had not seen it at the show.  So rustic, perfect for a cottage look.

More Hunt and Gather

We are waiting for the Bo Bunny lines to come in.

We have received the new House Mouse stamps and they are in the store just waiting for you.

Till tomorrow.

My oh My oh Maya…

Monday, August 15th, 2011

First let me start off with the name of the winner of our DCWV Halloween paper pack – congrats to Tammy Doering.  I know Tammy will love this pack of paper.  I am using this paper in the Halloween Advent we are doing a class on.  Come out and join us.

Now on to other good news.  We had shipments arrive all last week and continuing into this week with new products from Kaisercraft, Basic Grey, Bo Bunny, House Mouse, Kraftin Kimmie and also Maya Road.  Maya Road is a new supplier for Younique and I am thrilled to pieces with the product line.

Here is what you can expect from Maya Road and Younique

Aren’t they gorgeous.  We are offering bulk stick pins and these are sunflowers.  You can buy 1 or 100 of these beauties. We will be using these pins in our September card class.

More stick pins in packaged form

These little ticket strips and journalling blocks are perfect for cards and/or layouts

Chipboard sets include portraits, home tweet home, trees, sewing essentials and many more

Banners in chipboard and canvas

Beautiful ribbon of mini roses and daisies.  Also love the chipboard Shadow box.  Watch for an upcoming class with this project.

I’m loving the mini key chain chipboard.  Maya carries a full line of these.  Can’t resist all of their chipboard albums like this adorable teapot (this will be perfect at our January crop)

Here are more chipboard albums – girls, boys and dress forms which are really really hot right now.

All of this product is now available in the store and we will be adding to the online shop as well.

That’s it for product previews today and I’ll share more with you tomorrow.

I’m hearing out there that the “latest and hottest” products are Embellie Gellie and Best Glue Ever both products are by Scraperfect.  We must be ahead of the times because we have been carrying this product for over a year and yes we have it in stock.

Stay tuned for more product reviews and contests.
